Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU)

The Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) is a standard measurement used in shipping and logistics to quantify cargo capacity based on the dimensions of a 20-foot container. One TEU represents the volume of a standard 20-foot-long, 8-foot-wide, and 8.5-foot-high container. This measurement simplifies the planning, loading, and tracking of containers across global shipping routes. Larger containers, such as 40-foot containers, are counted as two TEUs. By using TEUs, shipping companies, ports, and logistics providers can efficiently manage space, calculate freight rates, and optimize shipping operations.
