Multimodal Shipping

Multimodal Shipping refers to the transportation of goods using at least two different modes of transport under a single contract. This method combines transport modes such as rail, truck, ship, or air to move cargo from origin to destination efficiently. A Multimodal Transport Operator (MTO) manages the entire process, coordinating each leg of the journey. This approach simplifies logistics for the shipper, as they only need to deal with one contract and one operator. Multimodal shipping optimizes delivery times, reduces costs, and ensures smooth cargo transfers between transport modes. It enhances supply chain efficiency while leveraging the strengths of each transport method, such as the affordability of rail and the flexibility of trucking for final delivery.
